Happy Anniversary To Me

Today's my three-year anniversary doing stand-up comedy. It's been fun at times, annoying at times...but always interesting. So much for introspection.

Anyway, here's the e-mail I wrote to my buds (I didn't have a blog then) following my very first show.

I wonder what happened to Triangle Man.

btw - Not many friends remember that show, but everyone remembers the second one.

Ack.

Rock On,

Aitch

I can't wait to see your act. I have never tried it (and probably never will; karaoke's more my thing), but it seems to me that being a comedian has to be one of the hardest jobs in the world. Enjoy your anniversary!

hey caitlin,

going away for a week later in July, but I'll let ya know when i'm doin' a good show in August.

you should try it - just for shits and giggles.

I wouldn't say it's "hard," - more that it's tough - cause you're being judged as you work - like your boss is constantly standing there.

Just think, one more show and you'll get that sitcom deal.

Happy yearaversary.

I commend you for doing a job where you instantly get feedback on how good or crappy you are. I would imagine you know fairly quickly if you're a good standup or not.

hey anonymous coworker,

yeah, i got a great idea for one in an office. all teh co-workers would be a combination of idiots and/or annoying...i'd play is straight and stare into the camera once in a while.

What?

Hey hypocritical One,

Yes, and no. You find out quickly if you're decent. It literally takes years to see if you are good enough to make any real money at it (if that is your goal).

rock on,
