I just got an e-mail, promoting a $329 flight to Ireland. Cool, I thought. Then I noticed the star next to the price. Looking below, I saw another star. Next to it, the ad said, "One-way, based on a round-trip purchase."
Talk about deceptive advertising.
Not only are they fooling people who wanna take a trip to Ireland, but I'm certain the fare is higher if you are in need of just a one-way ticket (I assume some people move there, no?).
That's like if Nike advertised their Air Jordan's, and displayed the price for one sneaker.

Believe it or not, the FTC and the DOT both allow this type of advertising, and it's not considered deceptive. Of course, that also depends on how far away the disclosure was and how big it was.
Dude, can you tell I work in advertising law? Sigh.
hey caitlin,
certainly not shocked that it's allowed...more dismayed.

was that for the surprise honeymoon, or in case McCain wins and you'll just want the one way ticket?
hey kimberoo99,
don't laugh...Josie will wanna move if McCain wins.
Heck, I may move anyway...rooting for the Mets is killing me.

Josie will not be alone in desiring to establish residency elsewhere. I can't say so many of us will actually do it...but a lot of us will think of it wistfully.
Cheers
Hey cheers,
To be honest, I'm kinda torn on McCain - on one hand, he's pro-life (I'm anti-life), and I'm not sure I'm thrilled with his blood thirst (though he'd prolly put it differently)...on the other hand, he really is, or shall I say "was" considered a maverick - he was on the outs with his party for years, and that's what i guess i like about him - he's what I've always asked for in a politician - he speaks his mind.
Sarah Palin, on the other hand, is a brutal choice and may get me to Canada.

People don't forget, Canada is a real live country with real live immigration laws, so you can't all just "show up" after the election...then there's finding jobs and stuff. just sayin'. in the meantime, hope Palin gets mauled by a bear (in lipstick)
hey kimberoo99,
what if i give them a Labatt Blue?

>>>or shall I say "was" considered a maverick
I, too, used to like him back when he was a ‘maverick’ because I thought it made him more of a statesman in the sense that it seemed like he put country above party.
Then he plummeted down the slippery slope – first for embracing the agents of intolerance, he was right that they (Falwell, Robertson and their ilk) were but then he withdrew his conscience & morals and embraced them to pander for presidential nomination votes. His recent campaign commercials have so miserably distorted, mis-stated and lied about Obama that they are downright K Rovian. He has lost my respect. I never agreed with all his positions but I usually felt that I could respect them and him. No longer.
I usually say 'Cheers!' but this acknowledgement leaves me uncheerful
hey david,
well said... and it sez a lot about politics that he pretty much had to sell his soul to get this far.
I actually think it was a tough decision on his part (unlike most) - don't forget - this is a guy who was tortured, and then allowed to leave a POW camp but refused to, because he wasn't there the longest (not sure if it's an Int'l agreement or what, but POW's are sposed to be returned on a first in-first out basis) - btw - he was sposed to get out early due to his dad becoming a big wig.
ANYWAY, I think that shows that he's a good and moral man deep down (I couldn't imagine anyone turing that down if in his place) - making his turn all the more disappointing.
I usually end with "Rock On" but, well, I guess I still can...

I hate it when airlines put stuff like that in the small print :(
